USS Arizona memorial in Pearl Harbor

December 7th, 1941 is the "day of infamy" in the US history to describe in the words of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor is the defining moment for the US to join the second world war. USS Arizona memorial was built on the sunken hull of the battleship without touching it. You can still see the oil seepage from the ship after 60 years.

If you have a little knowledge of the second world war and the sacrifices (remember Sullivan brothers?) made by the US, you get a feeling that is totally beyond the reach of words when you visit USS Arizona memorial. Here are some of the pictures of USS Arizona Memorial!

When we were in this area...driving down to this memorial place, I found it rather interesting to find directions in Japanese to the memorial. What a turn of events?. On one hand it shows how things can 'change' but more importantly it shows how human beings can move on and transcend some of the history.

Of course, it is also interesting to find that 75% of tourists in Hawaii seem to be japanese tourists. They seem to spend all the money they earned on toyotas and hondas back in Hawaii...atleast they are giving some of it back to the USA -:)

By the way, I posted some new pics of NH and will post some more in days to come.

Yes...Surya! People generally think history is boring. But when we look at the US and Japan relations, yes....what a turn of events!!

Japan attacks Pearl Harbor, US drops mighty bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan surrenders and decides US would be their sole protector!!! Who said hisotry is boring?:-)

A visit to this Memorial jogs up our memory and takes us to a different wolrd of endless thoughts. Only if the whole world knows how to reconcile!!
